Some Essex Units have had a Juniors section for a number of years. This is aimed at younger cadets between the ages of 10 and 12. Although based upon the same traditions and values of the older Sea Cadets, there are far more games and Leisure activities involved. Juniors are able to attend weekend activities such as the Junior Activity weekend. They also take part in Unit activities such as Pulling and Power Boating. After 6 months service, a Junior may be rated Junior Cadet 1st Class. After a years service they can be rated Leading Junior. Once the Junior reaches 12, he or she can automatically bypass the usual New Entry requirements and become fully enrolled Cadets.
